Dear 3rd Grade Families,
This month we have lots to learn about in 3rd grade. In reading, we will be looking at nonfiction texts and learning how author’s use text features to help the reader understand the text better. Not only that, but we will also be using this information to help us write an informative writing piece. Hopefully your 3rd graders come home ready to tell you all about what a volcanologist does and why their job is important.
In Math, we will spend a great deal of time on multiplication, multi-step number stories, and how to use number models to represent a problem. Our goal is to also get math drills up and rolling. Students will have drill home work Monday-Thursday and take a drill test on Friday. If they pass the drill test on Friday, they will move onto the next set of drills. If they do not pass it, they will repeat that drill the following week. All students will begin on multiplication.
In content, we will be finishing up our science unit and moving into social studies. The students will be learning about why it is important to understand where we live.
We also plan to begin working on Study Island this month. We will send home more information as we approach that time. Right now the goal is to familiarize the students with the program and use it as a reinforcement in the classroom.
