Mrs. Heather Sprenkle

Dear Families,

Sweet summertime is quickly coming to a close, but on the bright side I am thrilled begin a new school year with a new bunch of students.   It’s going to be an exciting, fun, and learning-filled year.  I’ve been working very hard to prepare our classroom for the upcoming school year beginning on Monday, August 21st. I also would like to take this opportunity to remind and invite you to Fairview’s Back to School Night, which will be held on Thursday, August 17th from 7:30-8:15 PM.

I am hopeful you are able to attend as I am looking forward to meeting you and discussing the upcoming school year. Lots of important information will be shared on this night and any questions you may have will be answered. In third grade, we will build our literacy skills continuing the use of the Wonders program, and through reading fiction and nonfiction texts. We will also write informational, persuasive, and narrative pieces. In science we will explore weather, space, and minerals among other topics. Within social studies we will learn about citizenship, how government works, and keep up-to-date with current events through Scholastic News. In math, we will continue using Everyday Math and study topics including: measurement, fractions, multiplication, division, geometry, and place value. We will prepare all year to take the Pennsylvania State Assessment (PSSA’s) for the first time in Math and English Language Arts (Reading, Writing, and Grammar). These assessments occur sometime in April.

Please refer to the list of school supplies that was sent home at the end of 2nd grade.  Each student is encouraged to get these supplies before the first day of school (Monday, August 21st). If you have difficulty obtaining these supplies, please let me know and I will be happy to help in any way that I can.

Thank you so much for your support!  I hope to see you all at Back to School Night! Enjoy the last days of summer! :)
