Mrs. Shimae O'Hara

It’s hard to believe that it’s February already.  We have already celebrated the 100th day of school and time is flying by!  Students are really working hard.  We have just finished our first reading assessments and our second trimester will be over on Feb. 27th.  Here are a few ways you can help your child continue to be successful in Kindergarten.

*Your child should read their 100 Book Challenge books to you each night.  Make sure your child is using some strategies when they are stuck.

*Practice the High Frequency words they know every night and be working on a few each week they don’t know.

*Continue to have your child work with letter cards.  Matching capital and lowercase letters, telling you their names and sounds, making a word and changing the letters to make new words.

*Practice counting each day with your child.  They need to count by 1’s to 100 and by 10’s to 100 by the end of the year.

*Have your child practice writing their numbers from at least 0 to 20 and identifying the numbers between 0 and 20.

Happy February to you all.  I hope you have found some helpful ideas.  Your child’s success is a team effort and it is a pleasure to team up with you!
