Mrs. Shimae O'Hara

Fall has finally come!  Students are busy into the daily schedule and routines of Kindergarten.  Students have now been introduced to all of the Alpha Friends.  Students are working on being able to quickly identify the letter names and the sounds the letter makes.

Journal writing will be introduced to your child this month.  Students will be able to write their own stories and books.  We are working on stretching out the sounds in each word so that we are able to identify all the letters in the word.  Students are looking forward to becoming authors.

We are on our second month of High Frequency words.  Be looking for the Rainbow words in the pouch very soon.  Remember to have your child read them to you every day.  Work on one or two words they don’t know each day until they can read them.

Daily 5 is now up and running.  Your child has learned the following independent activities: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listening to Reading, Word Work and Meet with Teacher. Students enjoy being able to do different activities during Daily 5.

Apple Pumpkin Day is coming up!!  This is a fun day where students are able to go to different classrooms and experience how applesauce is made, weighing pumpkins and other fun activities.  We need your help.  We will need parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or a family friend to help make this day a success.  Further information will be coming.

Please remember if you would like to volunteer for any class parties, field trips, or special activities at school, you will need to have your clearances submitted to the offices at Clayton Avenue.
