Your child will be bringing home two books in their 100 Book Challenge folder. They are to read the stories to you. It is very important that you have them read the book to you because it reinforces the strategies we practice in school. While your child is reading please make sure they are pointing under each word. This helps the student stay focused on the words. If you read the books to your child, they are not getting the practice needed. Attached to the brochure was a paper with strategies. While your child is reading, have them try many different strategies before assisting with the unknown word. Along with the strategies paper there were comprehension questions. After reading, ask your child 3-4 questions in order to make sure they understand what was being read. If you need another, please ask and I will send one home. After your child completes a book, please sign one number on their number grid that stays in the folder. Happy reading!!
By the end of the year, your child is expected to read a level D book. This level includes many lines of text, the words changing from page to page, and the pictures may not necessarily match everything that is in print. This is why it is very important for your child to read their books to you each night.
