How To Read To Your Child
Snuggle close in a comfortable place and invite your child to enjoy the story.
Read aloud the title, the author's name and the illustrator's name.
Discuss the cover illustrations.
Predict what the story is about based on the title an cover art.
Model reading the story in a suitable dramatic voice. Pause to allow predictions to be
Welcome interruptions. Elaborate on parts of the story that have special interest.
Share responses to the book. Confirm or revise their predictions.
Ask your child to retell the story in his or her own words.
Discuss the theme and relate it to your child's own experiences.
Praise and encourage your child for all responses
Enjoy every minute of the time spent with your children!
