Mrs. Susan Martin

A Reading Specialist, a classroom teacher, and para educators are having 20 minute rotations (reading, writing, and word work). The groups rotate to the three groups in one hour in 1st and 2nd grades and are based on instructional reading levels.

This year I have small groups of K, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade students. These 20 minute groups will be changing throughout the year as the Intervention Specialists and teachers assess the growth and the needs of our students.

Reading Involves:

  • solving words- decoding
  • monitoring and correcting - make sure you understand and fix confusion
  • using information to talk, write or answer questions about the text
  • remembering and finding important information using the book
  • reading like you talk (use expression)
  • predicting what you will learn
  • making connections- from your life experiences
  • adding or changing your current understanding
  • thinking about what the author means
  • noticing what the author does to help you understand their message
