Welcome to the News page!
We are just starting Unit 4, which has a heavy focus on Multi-digit Multiplication. Students will use partial-products, area models, and lattice multiplication methods. Please read and use the Family Letter for Unit 4, as it includes great information including examples and explanation of each multiplication method, vocabulary terms and definitions, suggestions for math activities to do at home called "Do Anytime" activities, and answers to the odd questions for homework pages.
Students should be fluent with single-digit by single-digit multiplication facts. If not, please continue to practice at home. The more fluent students become with single-digit facts, the easier the multi-digit multiplication will be. If you would like a set of flashcards to help supplement the Math Facts homework, please let me know.
Also, Study Island is a great online tool to use at home to help practice skills taught in class. I have assigned students topics for the skills we have discussed in Units 1, 2, and 3. Students can view an online lesson and answer questions pertaining to each skill using Study Island. By answering at least 70% correct in each skill, students will also earn Blue Ribbons, which will be rewarded in school. There are also game modes in Study Island where students can play short games if they answer questions correctly.
